Havana, March 26 (RHC) -- A delegation of U.S. officials, headed by the U.S. Coordinator for International Communications and Information Policy, Daniel Sepulveda, is in Cuba to discuss improving telecommunications on the island.

The delegation arrived in Havana for a three-day visit to a reception on Tuesday with Cuban Vice-Minister of Communications, Jorge Luis Perdomo.

The visitors met with officials from the ministries for foreign affairs, foreign trade and foreign investment, and from Etecsa, Cuba's state telecommunications service provider.

"During the meeting the Cuban side provided the U.S. visitors information on computer policy and cyber-security of the country," said a Cuban government statement.

The parties also discussed new U.S. government regulations relaxing some restrictions on the provision of computer hardware and software for telecommunications.

The U.S. delegation also visited the University of Computer Sciences and the Jose Antonio Echevarria Polytechnic University in Havana, two key centers for telecommunications and computer science training.
