Havana, April 20 (RHC)-- The mid-term elections held Sunday in Cuba were described as positive after recording a high turnout.

Over seven million 700 voters had cast their ballots near the closing hour of the elections of municipal delegates in nearly 25,000 voting stations throughout the island.

The National Electoral Commission said that the vote took place without any problems, proving the effectiveness of communications systems.

A total of 27 thousand 379 candidates were nominated by the people, out of that figure 35% were women and over 59 percent were already in office.

12,500 seats at municipal Assemblies of People’s Power (local governments) were in contention.
