San Salvador, July 22 (RHC) -- The Cuban Five have concluded a brief but intense visit to El Salvador, which was described by the president of that Central American nation, Salvador Sanchez Ceren, as “an historic moment.”

Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez, accompanied by several of their relatives, carried out a tight working agenda during their stay in El Salvador, that included a meeting with President Ceren at the Presidential House.

The Salvadoran president said that The Five, as they are known internationally, are a source of pride for all Latin Americans and living proof that when truth and justice are defended, no sacrifice is in vain.

The secretary general of the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front, the FMLN, Medardo González, awarded the Medal of Merit of the FMLN to the Cuban Five, in recognition of their work on behalf of peace and justice.

The Cuban heroes arrived in El Salvador from Nicaragua, where they attended activities over the weekend for the 36th anniversary of the Popular Sandinista Revolution.
