Havana, September 16 (RHC)-- Jesus Robles, representative in Cuba of the United Nations Population Fund (UNPF), praised the commitment of the Caribbean nation to demographic research, and its importance in the implementation of public policies.

Robles highlighted that Cuba works with the results of studies and observations of population dynamics and that this is essential for the development of any country, the Cubasi Web site reported on Tuesday.

He underlined the responsibility of institutions and authorities involved in the process of finding information, including the Center for Demographic Studies of the University of Havana (CEDEM) and the National Bureau of Statistics and Information.

The official also noted that there is political will in Cuba, so the CEDEM and other organizations guarantee the progress of research, which has the following premise: "The population is the object and subject of development."

Robles referred to the International Conference on Population and Development held in Cairo, Egypt, in 1994, when Cuba had already accomplished many of the goals –- a pillar for Latin America and the Caribbean.

Likewise, he commented on local projects and the importance of studies based on the characteristics of each area, in favor of the promotion of the well-being and quality of life of citizens.
