Washington, October 7 (RHC)-- Engage Cuba, an organization that promotes the normalization of U.S.-Cuba relations, issued a communique on Tuesday by its president James Williams regarding the current visit to the island by U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker.

The communiqué, on the page of the organization, considers the visit by Pritzker as “a positive development that will strengthen the unprecedented momentum in U.S.-Cuba relations.”

The organization also expresses expectations that the US Commerce Secretary will meet with representatives of the Cuban non-state business sector, which some consider to represento ver 40 percent of the total labor and which continues to face obstacles derived from the US blockade.

The communiqué stressed a crystal-clear call for the lifting of the U.S. anti-Cuba unilateral and extraterritorial policy: “While we applaud this trip, it is absurd that U.S. policy prohibits our own Secretary of Commerce from promoting American exports during her trip to Cuba. Congress should do its job and lift the embargo to better empower businesses in both countries.”
