Santiago de Cuba, October 16 (RHC)-- The self-defense speech known as “History Will Absolve Me” –- presented by Fidel Castro during the trial for the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Cespedes Garrisons -- is remembered today, 62 years later, at a tribute celebrated at the Popular Provincial Tribunal in Santiago de Cuba.

“History Will Absolve Me” was Fidel's self-defense speech in which the young lawyer turned his accusers into the accused. In his speech, the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution revealed the crimes of the Fulgencio Batista dictatorship and outlined the program of the revolutionary July 26th Movement.

In his speech delivered 62 years ago today, Fidel Castro offered a detailed description of the five relevant issues of that time in our country. These issues were related to land, industry, education, health, jobs, and housing. This self-defense speech is considered one of the most important documents of Latin American history.
