Havana, December 6 (RHC)-- The 200-strong Cuban delegation to the 18th World Festival of Youth and Students departed early on Friday for Ecuador. Quito, the capital, will host the international event for tens of thousands of young people from all over the world.

A cultural delegation is accompanying the delegates to the Festival, as well as special guests such as Elian Gonzalez. Elian, as a child, was held in Miami by relatives of his mother, who lost her life in a dangerous crossing of the Florida Straits. Her death, like thousands of others, was the direct result of the criminal U.S. Cuban Adjustment Act.

The Cuban delegation to Quito will meet with a group of Cubans who are working in different sectors of Ecuadoran society.

The event will get underway Saturday with the participation of over 10,000 delegates and guests from 100 countries.
