Havana, December 19 (RHC)-- In its most recent meeting by the Cuban Council of Ministers has revealed to Granma newspaper that Cuba is going lift long-standing restrictions on the retail sale of new or second-hand motorbikes, cars, and other vehicles, following the approval of the initiative.
The new policy overrules the formerly required letters of authorization issued by the Transport Ministry and other approval agencies to purchase such vehicles from state-owned entities.
The initiative establishes retail sale prices similar to the ones now prevailing in current transactions between owners of private vehicles. The new strategy also includes Cuban nationals and foreign residents in the country, as well as the diplomatic corps.
According to the report, taxes collected through these transactions will be destined to develop public transportation in the country.
