Interjet to Fly to Santa Clara

Havana, July 13 (RHC)-- The Mexican airline Interjet announced Tuesday that it will start flights on July 14 to the central Cuban city of Santa Clara (Villa Clara), with two weekly departures.

A statement from the Cuban Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR), issued here in Havana, said the flight will originate in Mexico City, with A330 Airbuses.  Executives of the transport company, tour operators and Mexican journalists will participate in the inaugural trip.  Reporters from that country will conduct a familiarization program to promote Cuba as a travel Destination.

The MINTUR delegation in Villa Clara (central Cuba) and Gaviota authorities will welcome this flight that will increase the number of visitors to the island. Mexico is among the first 10 tourist markets to Cuba.

Interjet director general, Jose Luis Garza, talked about the importance of the opening of this route, because it strengthens the leadership of the air links between Mexico and Cuba.

This opening is Interjet's sixth route to this archipelago. This airline has already been operating from Mexico City, Cancun, Merida and Monterrey to Havana and from Mexico City to Varadero, with 76 weekly operations (10,260 seats).
