Playa Giron Boxing Tournament
Havana, May 13 (RHC) - Triumphs by Jorge Cuellar (SSP), Adrian Licea (SSP), Jairo Munive (HOL) and Dairon Girado (VCL) today nuanced the rivalry between the 71 kilos exponents enrolled in the National Boxing Tournament Playa Girón 2025, organized in Camagüey.
Cuellar, Central Caribbean bronze medalist in San Salvador 2023, validated the predictions by beating Yolmedis Santos (LTU) 3-0 to confirm himself among the main contenders for the scepter defended by Licea, who won by the same score against Yoslan Hernandez (SSP).
Girado's success, defined in the third round, emerged from a duel that responded to his condition as the most expected of the card. Abundant exchanges closed with a 2-1 decision in his favor over Budva 2024 world youth championship silver medalist David Espinosa (HAB).
By provinces, Santiago de Cuba reached seven units and is leader, while Guantanamo, Holguin, Camaguey, Sancti Spiritus, and Villa Clara show three each.
This Thursday there will be 20 bouts, all for bronze medals, and Cuellar will face Munive in the one that generates greater expectations. The others will take place in 48, 57, 75, and 80 kilos.
