Havana, Jun 25 (RHC) - Today, the Cuban team defeated Germany in four sets at the start of the second week of the Volleyball Nations League.
In Belgrade, capital of Serbia, their will to win allowed them to overcome the arrival of eight players just a few hours before the duel, to leave their rival lying with partials of 19-25, 25-18, 25-22, and 25-21.
Young corner attacker Jose Miguel Gutierrez was the hero of the day with 20 points, 19 of them in attack and one in service, precisely the score that sealed the victory.
Also in double digits were opposite José Massó (14/12-1-1), center Javier Concepción (11/8-3-0), and attacker-receiver Marlón Yant (11/8-2-1).
Middle blocker David Fiel added six units (3-1-2) and setter Julio Gómez two (1-0-1), as part of the regular lineup along with Yonder García as libero.
For the Germans, Tobias Brand (17/15-2-0) scored the most, according to the official FIVB site.
Collectively, the Cubans were better in attack (51-49), service (7-2), and errors (25-28). In blocking, the opponents finished ahead 10-8.
The Antilleans will compete this Thursday against the local team, starting at 2:00 p.m. (Cuban time).
