Roxana Gomez

Havana, July 6 (RHC) - With a record for the competition in mind, Roxana Gomez stood out today in the Cuban performance at the International Athletics Meeting of Ordizia in Spain.

The Olympic finalist of Tokyo 2020 dominated the 400 meters with 50.40 seconds, in a race in which she took the lead from the last curve of the track and “took” wide advantage over the local Blanca Hervás (51.65) and Eva Santidrian (51.88).

Roxana, who now trains under Yassen Perez's orders, achieved her personal best so far this season and showed clear evolution after having clocked 50.98 in Troyes-Aube and 50.93 in Malaga, both meetings at the end of last June.

Also with her best time of the current season, Yunisleidy García won the 100 meters with 11.15 seconds. Behind her came Great Britain's Desirre Henry (11.18), two-time Olympic medalist in the 4x100 relay, and Spain's María Isabel Pérez (11.28).

The current national record holder in the hectometer won on July 2 in Pamplona with a time of 11.51 seconds and had scored her best time of the year, 11.23, in Russia.
