Havana, Jun 13 (JIT) - Six weightlifters will represent Cuba at the Asuncion 2025 Junior Pan American Games, which will take place from August 9 to 23.

The team was defined after the international federation of that sport made public the list of divisions approved for the event.

In Paraguayan territory, the men will lift weights in the 60, 65, 71, 79, 88, 98, 110, and +110 kilograms categories. For women, the divisions established were 48, 53, 58, 63, 69, 77, 86, and +86 kilograms.

Cuba, with three athletes per sex, formed a men's team made up of Yulieski Martínez (65 kg), Emanuel de la Rosa (79 kg), and Jonathan Villalonga (98 kg) from Matanzas.

The girls chosen were Thalia Fidelia Castillo (53 kg), Lisney Adame (63 kg), and Erdilianys Chamizo (69 kg).

The national team is training hard at the Manuel Suarez Fernandez gymnasium of Escuela de Formación de Atletas de Alto Rendimiento Cerro Pelado (High Performance Athletes Training School, ESFAAR, for its Spanish acronym), in this city, in preparation for the important youth continental event.

Prior to the multi-sport event in Asunción, two members of the squad, de la Rosa and Adame, will take part in an invitational cup to be organized by Russia from June 24 to 28.

Senior team members Yeniuska Mirabal and Edisnel Corrales will also compete there, according to Gabriel Ezquivel, coach of the men's team.

The rest of the members of the team will concentrate on the national youth tournament, scheduled for June 20-28, in Mayabeque.
