Cuba conveys condolences to Italy on funicular accident

Havana, May 24 (RHC)- Cuba's Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla regretted the loss of human lives in Italy as a result of the fall of a cable car in the town of Stresa.

On Twitter Rodriguez sent condolences to the Italian government and people, as well as to the families of the victims.

"We regret the loss of human lives as a result of the fall of a cable car, in the town of Stresa, Italy. Our condolences to the Italian government and people, which we extend to the families of the victims," Rodríguez Parrilla wrote.

This Sunday, Italy's National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps reported that a cabin of the Stresa-Mottarone funicular in the Piedmont region fell into the void, causing several deaths and also serious injuries.

As a result, 14 people died, including a 9-year-old boy, and another minor is in serious condition.

The Italian Prime Minister, Mario Draghi, expressed the government's condolences to the families of the victims, dedicating a special thought to the seriously injured children and their families.

According to Prensa Latina news agency, the Minister of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility, Enrico Giovannini, announced the creation of a commission to determine the causes of the incident.
