Havana, July 18 (RHC)-- Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez has condemned the Israeli bombing of the Sagrada Familia Catholic Church, the only one of its kind still standing in Gaza.

"This attack gravely violates international humanitarian law and increases the destruction of religious institutions in the Strip, which provide care amid the extermination of the Palestinian people," the Cuban foreign minister wrote on social media.

According to the BBC, at least three people were killed and several were injured, including the church's Argentine pastor, Gabriel Romanelli.

Pope Leo XIV expressed his profound sadness at the attack on the institution where several Christian families have been living since the Israeli offensive in Gaza began, after being displaced by the destruction of their homes.

It is estimated that before the bombing there were around 600 refugees, mostly children and people with special needs.  It should be noted that this church is located in an area of Gaza that the Israeli army had already ordered to be abandoned.
