Havana, January 15 (RHC)-- Spanish-French academic and journalist Ignacio Ramonet termed as 'cynical' the decision by the outgoing administration of US President Donald Trump to designate Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism.

Writing on social media, Ramonet termed Washington's move as shameful. 'It's the world upside down, wrote the author of memorable titles like 'Cien horas con Fidel' (100 hours with Fidel).

He recalled that for decades, the Caribbean island and its people had endured almost every conceivable form of terrorism, plotted, financed, and perpetrated from US soil by anti-Cuba extremists, acting with US authorities' complicity or tolerance.

US-sponsored terrorism against Cuba has claimed thousands of innocent lives and has also caused severe, permanent injuries to a thousand others.

Ramonet stressed that, as a matter of principle, Cuba has never allowed its territory to be used by neither individuals nor groups to plot or perpetrate terrorist attacks against the United States or any other country. The renowned author pointed to the Caribbean state's impeccable record in the fight against this scourge.

'In today's world, devastated by the worst pandemic humanity has experienced in many centuries, the dying Trump Administration continues sowing hatred and division, while Cuba, a tiny, blockaded island spreads solidarity and provides dozens of nations the world over with much-needed health and sanitary assistance to fight Covid-19,' wrote Ramonet.
