Havana, Feb. 8 (RHC)-- US actress Susan Sarandon praised Cuba’s achievements in the fight against Covid-19, particularly the development and production of homegrown vaccines against the deadly disease and its willingness and readiness to help inoculate millions of underserved people in the Global South.

The Oscar-winning actress resorted to social media to urge the US government to lift economic sanctions against the neighboring Caribbean island state.

‘Now, Cuba has announced that it could produce tens of millions of doses of its homegrown Covid-19 vaccines for countries in the global south. The embargo is the only thing standing in the way. The time has come to end the embargo and let Cuba breathe. Join us,’ Susan Sarandon wrote on Twitter.

Known for her social and political activism as well as for her commitment to international bodies such as the UN Children’s Fund, Sarandon has visited Cuba on several occasions. Her latest visit here was in March 2019 together with US actor Owen Wilson.
