Santiago de Cuba, 14 Feb. (RHC)—A gala will take place in Santiago de Cuba on February 17th, organized by Siboney Studios of the record and musical editions company EGREM, as tribute to Revolution Commander Juan Almeida Bosque on his 95th birthday.

The recital ‘Así te recordamos, Comandante’, is among activities to celebrate the life and work of Almeida, who participated alongside Fidel Castro in the assault on the Moncada Barracks, for which he was also imprisoned. He was also part of the expeditionary force on the Granma yacht and fought on the Sierra Maestra mountains, where he founded and led the 3rd Eastern Front of the rebel army.

Almeida was also a prolific composer. He wrote more than 300 songs. He founded Siboney Studios over 40 years ago to promote the vast work of musicians in the Eastern Cuban region. During the gala on February 17th, soloists and ensembles will perform tunes written by the Revolution Commander and artist.
