Mural celebrates Cuba-Serbia ties

Havana, Feb.22 (RHC) -- Cuban artist José R. Fuster inaugurated a mural painting in the Havana neighborhood of Jaimanitas on occasion of the 120th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Serbia. The artwork features distinctive elements of the Balkan nation.

Serbian ambassador to Cuba Danilo Pantovic attended Monday’s inauguration. He said that it marks the beginning of the twelve-month program of actions to celebrate bilateral Cuba-Serbia ties.

Patovic further said that bilateral relations have been based on friendship, mutual support and cooperation. He said that ever since the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in 1959, bilateral ties are based on mutual understanding and a common cause for the preservation of national sovereignty and independence.

Artist José R. Fuster, for his part, said the mural highlights emblematic architecture and landscapes of the European nation, as well as prominent Serbian personalities like engineer and physicist Nikola Tesla, who made dozens of breakthroughs in the production, transmission and application of electric power.

Also on hand were representatives of diplomatic missions stationed in Cuba and Cuban government and culture authorities.
