Nearly twenty tunes by renowned Cuban singer-songwriter, Silvio Rodríguez, will be arranged for a Cuban National Symphony tour with Cuban singer Augusto Enríquez set to begin on November 3.
Tunes such as Mariposas (Butterflies), ¡Oh! Melancolía (Oh!, Melancholy), El necio (The Stupid), Unicornio (Unicorn), Te doy una canción (I’ll give you a song) and not very well known songs by the famous Cuban troubadour will color a dozen of concerts all over the island.
At a news conference, singer Augusto Enriquez pointed out that the idea emerged four years ago and the dream came true when they were able to record a trilogy of albums with 34 pieces, under the Cuban Colibrí Seal. Audiences attending the concerts will be able to buy the CDs in regular Cuban pesos.
Cuban National Symphony Artistic Director and conductor, maestro Enrique Pérez Mesa, expressed satisfaction at touring the country with Enríquez, featuring the songs by Silvio Rodriguez, whom he considers a poet who has marked contemporary Cuban musical composition.
In each of the cities where the concerts will take place, the National Symphony and Enríquez are scheduled to invite musicians and professional choirs of the visited cities and towns.
The tour, set to begin in Guantánamo on November 3rd, will wind up with a special concert by Augusto Enríquez and the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra at Havana’s National Theater on November 29th.
