The First Indian Culture Festival opened in the Cuban capital with the attendance of the Vice-President of the Republic of India, Mohammad Hamid Ansarim, Cuban Culture Minister Rafael Bernal and other Indian delegation members accompanying the Asian nation’s high-ranking official.
The arts gathering opened at the Cuban capital’s Mella Theater with the show Nrityarupa, featuring a wide panorama of traditional Hindu dances. At the opening Indian’s First Vice-Minister of Culture, Ravindra Singh, thanked Cuba for its warm welcome and termed a privilege the opportunity to be able to show a small sample of his people’s millenary cultural heritage in an event that groups seven art forms.
The festival is part of a bilateral cultural exchange agreement under which India will also welcome Cuban artists and performers in the Asian country. The show Nrityarupa will be running at the Milanés Theater in western Cuban city of Pinar del Río on Thursday.
The festival’s program also includes a literary gathering, yoga sessions, a Cuban-Indian painting exhibit and movie screenings, with the premier of the Bollywood super-production Ek Tha Tiger, shot on locations in Havana.
