The Cuban National Ballet Company is celebrating the 70th anniversary of the debut of Alicia Alonso in the role of Giselle with two simultaneous performances on November 2nd.

Company members who are touring Spain will take the famous classic to Seville’s La Maestranza, while the rest will dance a mixed bill in which the ballet Acuarela is scheduled to be premiered at Havana’s National Theater.

Acuarela was specially created for the occasion by the ensemble’s director and prima ballerina assoluta, Alicia Alonso, with a score by Josef Strauss and costume design by Ricardo Reymena. The shows are also set to include other pieces, such as En las sombras de un vals (In the Shades of a Waltz), Umbral (Threshold), Desnuda luz del amor (Naked Love Light) and the pas de dix of Act I and scene of Act II of Giselle. The last performance is dedicated to Havana’s 15th International Theater Festival.
