Arlenis Sierra repeats victory in prologue and is leader in Giro a Toscana

Havana, August 27 (RHC)-- Like two years ago, Cuban Arlenis Sierra (A.R.Monex) won Friday the prologue of the Giro a la Toscana (Italy) and will wear the leader's pink jersey on Saturday in the first stage over 116.8 km.

Champion exponent of the giro in tribute to Michela Fanini, the Cuban repeated her 2019 triumph in the 2.2 km time trial section, by clocking 2.59.33 minutes, riding at an average speed of over 44.5 km/h.

She was escorted to the finish by Martina Alzini of Valcar Treavel & Service (3.04.86 min) and Karolina Kumiega of the Polish national team (3.05.28).

A total of 147 riders in 24 professional teams are competing in the prestigious giro.

As two years ago, the star of Cuban cycling and captain of Monex confirms her ambition to fight for the title in the giro, with final finish in Florence.

In 2019, the native of Manzanillo (eastern Cuba) also won the prologue and was second in both the first and second stages.

The riders will ride 4 laps of a 21 km circuit on flat terrain and then face the dreaded Valgiano climb, just six kilometers from the finish.
