Cuba's team for the Under-23 Baseball World Cup is announced

The National Baseball Commission announced the roster of 24 players that will represent Cuba in the upcoming Under-23 World Championship, to be held in Taipei, China, from October 13 to 23.

Havana, September 27 (RHC)-- The National Baseball Commission announced the roster of 24 players that will represent Cuba in the upcoming Under-23 World Championship, to be held in Taipei, China, from October 13 to 23.

The team that will be led by Alain Alvarez, from Cienfuegos, is made up of two catchers, seven infielders, four outfielders and 11 pitchers, headed by international players Pedro Revilla, Guillermo Garcia, Marlon Vega and Frank Abel Alvarez, who are playing in the Japanese league, as well as Naykel Cruz, who recently returned from Mexico.

The catchers are Andrys Pérez García (MTZ) and Brayan Javier González Baño (LHA), while the infielders are Pedro Pablo Revilla Leiva (GTM), Christian Leandro Rodríguez García (VCL), Yuri Marcos Fernández de Armas (VCL), Carlos Rafael Rodríguez González (LTU), Cristihan Hidalgo Chávez (LHA), Ariel Alejandro Díaz Pared (VCL) and Jeifer Rodríguez Hernández (PRI).

Outfielders Guillermo García García (GRA), Dany de Jesús Oramas Navarro (CFG), Carlos Antonio Monier Torres (SCU) and Dairon Montalvo Castillo (CAV) made the grade.

The pitchers called up are Naykel Yoel Cruz Saldívar (MTZ), Oscar Ernesto Hernández Horta (VCL), Leodán Manuel Reyes Lugo (PRI), Roberto Enrique Hernandez Navarro (SSP), Alexander Valiente Rodríguez (GTM), Marlon Vega Travieso (MAY), Frank Abel Álvarez Díaz (PRI), Randy Cueto Pérez (VCL), Alex Guerra (SSP), Luis Alejandro Serpa Socarrás (CFG) and Andy Vargas Lescaille (LHA).

Team management features Alain Álvarez Moya, Julio César Álvarez Pérez, Dioel Reyes Viquillón, Pedro Luis Lazo Iglesias and Roberto González Bonachea.

Cuba has only participated in one edition of these competitions, held in 2021 in Hermosillo, Mexico, where it finished fourth.

For the event in Taipei, the team of the mentor from Central America was placed in group B, along with Puerto Rico, Australia, South Korea, the Netherlands and Mexico.
