Gold for Cubans in African Open in Parapesas

Havana, October 31 (JIT) - Cubans Oníger Drake and Yuniel Suárez, along with Salvadoran Herbert Aceituno, won gold medals in the men's team event of the African Open Parapesas Championship in Cairo 2022, Egypt.

Six teams took part in the competition, two of which were eliminated after the first round of exercises and another pair after the second round, the latter with the option of challenging for the bronze medals.

The best teams of the competition, in this case Egypt and the Cuban-Salvadoran team, entered a third round for the title, which fortunately went to the Latin Americans.

According to the information received by JIT from the headquarters, in the final match Yuniel weighed 150 kg, Drake 172 kg and Aceituno 187 kg for a final score (through a formula) of 362.36 points.

The local team had Mohamed Elmenyawy (170 kg), Shaaban Ibrahim (175 kg) and Hany Abdelhady (180 kg) for a total of 362 units.

In the previous days, Yaimé Bongo (+86 kg) and Yuniel Suárez (72 kg) got fourth places; Oníger Drake (88 kg) the sixth and Leydis Rodríguez the most outstanding individual performance, with silver and bronze medals in the 45 kg.
