Cuba with options to fight for gold in Pan American Softball Championship (F)

Havana, November 19 (RHC)-- Cuba's women's softball team lost to the United States at the Pan American Games in Guatemala, but still has options to fight for the gold medal.

The Americans showed their category of world champions with a 13-2 knockout, in the Page system of the championship on Friday night at the Carlos Cano stadium in the capital city.

For the Cubans, the stellar Anisley Lopez, who could not withstand the offensive thrust of the rivals, allowing a cluster of five runs, opened the game.

In relief, Yamelkis Guevara was also unable to stop the momentum of the northern girls with another run to her credit.

Jorge Lamas' pupils got a run back in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Yarianna López and that was all.

The islanders are waiting this Saturday for the result of the game between Puerto Rico and Canada, another of the strongest teams in this contest, to decide the gold medal.

In case of winning the right to discuss a place at the top of the podium would be against the United States again, and this same Saturday.

Previously, on Thursday, Cuba secured bronze and tickets to the Pre-World Cup, Central Caribbean and Pan American Games 2023 by defeating Puerto Rico, 12 runs to five.
