Havana, February 1 (RHC)-- With the coronation of the host Camilo Gomez, the national chess championship in the Blitz modality was enjoyed today in the city of Holguin.

Camilo accumulated 5.5 points out of a possible seven and beat Camagüey's Carlos Daniel Albonoz, who defended the 2022 crown and now took the silver at the Sports Museum of the eastern province.

The also host Isán Ortiz took third place on the podium with five stripes and completed the medalists of a competition in which the games are three minutes per player, plus two seconds of increment after each move.

A total of 26 men participated in a tournament that is already traditional as a prelude to the national classical games, which will begin this Thursday with interesting duels.

Albornoz will play black pieces against Lelys Martínez from Santiago de Cuba, Isán with similar figures will play against Ermes Espinosa from Villaclareño and Omar Almeida from Havana will play white against Luis Ernesto Quesada from Avila.

Havana's Alexey Fernandez will play white against local Rider Diaz, Mayabequense's Henry Soto against Havana's Dylan Berdayes, and Villaclare's Jerzy Jesus Perez and Elier Miranda will play against each other.

The latter dominated the qualifying stage along with Ermes, both with six points, and should be among those who offer more resistance to the members of the national pre-selection, "seeded" directly in this defining stage.
