Bogota, Sep 1 (RHC)-- Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced a plan to combat money laundering and drug trafficking, one of the country's most pressing problems.

In the Integral Human Security Council of  Bogota, the President explained that this proposal is to articulate intelligence and counterintelligence and aims to confront multi-crime organizations.

"Drug trafficking has no other objective with all its armies in the territories of Colombia than to make money and the money is made in the laundering of assets. It is not made by uninformed people", Petro affirmed.

He assured that these organizations "are in offices and may be very powerful people," said the President.

Petro indicated that "to deactivate this big drug trafficking mechanism, which is money laundering, which includes immense smuggling activities, " it is necessary to emphasize the articulation of the State's intelligence bodies.

He added that intelligence must have a strong counterweight in the form of counterintelligence.

Through this action, the rights of the citizens will not be affected. Still, the efforts of the State forces will be directed to "fight against big money laundering operations and corruption because big money laundering operations are generally carried out with State officials."

He emphasized that the strengthening of the intelligence activity in the country is "done with numbers, with software, with network analysis, with artificial intelligence, even with brain capacity more than military."

To this end, it is urgent to articulate the State intelligence agencies, such as the Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Interpol, the Directorate of Police Intelligence, and the Information and Financial Analysis Unit, with the objective of "guaranteeing the greatest effectiveness in the operations against money laundering in Colombia."
