Premier of the Canadian province of Quebec, Philippe Couillard

Havana, September 12 (RHC)-- Premier of the Canadian province of Quebec, Philippe Couillard, began a three-day official visit to Cuba Monday, aimed at strengthening relations in areas like renewable energy, tourism and agro-food industry.

The Cuban Foreign Ministry said that during his stay in Havana, Couillard will hold talks with Cuban government officials, among them Ricardo Cabrisas, Minister of Economy and Planning.

Last April, the government of Quebec announced plans to open a permanent office in Havana. A month later, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez and his Canadian counterpart Stéphane Dion met in Ottawa --the first high-level meeting between representatives from the two countries since Justin Trudeau became Prime Minister of Canada in October 2015.

In February 2016, Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard issued a decree, adding Cuba to the territories covered by the Quebec government office in Mexico City.
