Havana, June 26 (RHC) -- The Minister of Foreign Affairs for Belarus, Vladimir Makei, expressed his categorical rejection of the United States government's hostile policy towards Cuba, particularly the over 50-year-long economic blockade against the Caribbean island.

"We have never concealed our position regarding the U.S. blockade on Cuba, and we are categorically against any policy of blackmail, pressure or blockade, as well as against its application to other nations," the minister told Prensa Latina news agency.

"We have always openly expressed our opposition at the United Nations to the U.S. economic sanctions on Cuba," the top Belorussian diplomat said in the framework of his two-day visit to Havana.  "We always find the same pressure being exerted by major powers, on a completely artificial and politicized basis," Makei said, referring to the unilateral sanctions imposed by the European Union against his Belarus.

The minister also pledged his country's continued support for Cuba and its just causes and called for the further strengthening of political and economic ties between their nations.
