Brussels, May 18 (RHC)-- Cuba's ambassador to Belgium, Yaira Jimenez,  acknowledged on Wednesday the broad participation in an international meeting against the U.S. blockade of the island, a forum held in front of the European Parliament.

" I deeply appreciate the realization of this day for Cuba, said the diplomat. After more than 200 people took Luxembourg Square in this capital to demand with flags and banners the end of an economic, commercial and financial siege that they described as criminal."

Jimenez highlighted the presence of compatriots living in Germany, Belgium, France, Italy, the United Kingdom, Latin American friends, and representatives of political forces and solidarity movements from several countries.

In her words, she ratified the will of the government and the people of Cuba to continue resisting aggressions, particularly a blockade that has been in place for more than 60 years.

Cuba faced two pandemics, that of Covid-19 and the one caused by the blockade, which ruthlessly intensified during this period of health crisis.

Jimenes, who is also the Cuban ambassador to the European Union,  denounced that the goal of the United States remains: to destroy the Revolution and the path chosen in a sovereign manner by its people.

She also criticized the absurd inclusion of the island in the unilateral list of countries allegedly sponsoring terrorism. She considered it difficult to explain that Washington prohibits its citizens from visiting Cuba in its stubbornness to attack it.

Regarding the recent measures announced by the United States, eliminating some restrictions decreed by the Trump administration titghtening the blockade, she pointed out that although they go in the right direction, they have a very limited character.
