Cuba's President stresses the importance of municipal elections

Havana, November 15 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel emphasized the importance of the municipal elections of the People's Power, to be held on November 27th across the island.

Attention #Cuba, elections for delegates are coming. #YoVotoEl27 for those who can transform the neighborhood. It is a big task, the president wrote on Twitter, at a time when the country is holding assemblies to nominate candidates for those positions.

This process is taking place from October 21 to November 18 according to a schedule approved at the request of each municipality, and includes 44,700 of these meetings at the neighborhood level.

According to the National Electoral Council, to date 26 thousand candidates for delegates have been nominated throughout the country, as a result of a process characterized by transparency and popular participation.

Caridad Sabó, member of this entity, said that for several months the electoral authorities have been developing a wide preparation and training process, mainly oriented to identify their roles and functions.

The election of delegates to the Municipal Assemblies of People's Power is held every five years on the same day throughout the national territory, and will have a second round on December 4 in those districts where none of the candidates obtains more than 50 percent of the valid votes cast.
