Cuba reaffirms friendship and solidarity with Palestine

Havana, Dec 2 (RHC) Cuban representatives reaffirmed Friday our country´s friendship and solidarity with the people of Palestine, at an event held at the headquarters of the Arab Union of Cuba.

We are proud of our ties of brotherhood, said the president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples -ICAP-, Fernando Gonzalez, speaking at the commemoration, dedicated to the International Day of Solidarity with Palestine, the 34th anniversary of the proclamation of that state, and the 48th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

He pointed out that the best tribute is to contribute to the construction of a Palestinian State within the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and called to join the action in the battle waged by that brotherly people.

In the presence of the Palestinian ambassador in Havana, Akram Samhan, Fernando Gonzalez condemned Israel's crimes in its annexationist eagerness against an innocent and unarmed population.

He also ratified Cuba's position of supporting a just, comprehensive, and lasting solution to the conflict, which would guarantee the exercise of the inalienable right to peace and self-determination of the Palestinians.

He rejected the support of the United States to Israel and the impunity with which it commits violent acts and added that all the revolutionaries of the world should pronounce themselves against that racist war.

Norma Goicochea, president of the Cuban Association of the United Nations, expressed on behalf of the civil society of the island, the commitment to the "just Palestinian cause" and pointed out that the occupation of their territory and the forced displacement of families are a shame for humanity.

She condemned Israel's annexationist plans and actions and its colonizing practices and called for an end to violence and aggression against civilians and health personnel.

Ambassador Akram Samhan thanked Cuba for its historical solidarity with its people and reaffirmed its willingness to continue fighting for freedom and peace. Even though this has been a very cruel year, where in just 72 hours 10 Palestinians lost their lives, we will not accept a future with walls, he assured.

We will continue defending our right to peace and the recognition of the Palestinian people as a full member of the UN, she added.

Participating in the ceremony were the Cuban Minister of Transportation, Eduardo Rodríguez; the Vice Chief of the International Relations Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Juan Carlos Marsán; the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Anayansi Rodríguez; members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Havana; officials of the Parliament of the island and Palestinian students. Good to see that some sense still prevails in parts of the Western hemisphere. Meanwhile, in Washington, DC, 99% of US politicians are still firmly in the pockets of the Zionists.
