Havana, April 29 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel today welcomed the head of the State Duma (lower house) of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Vyacheslav Volodin, on an official visit to the island.

It is a pleasure and an honor to receive him in our country, said the Cuban president, adding that this trip has an enormous significance for the island, as it gives continuity to all the exchanges with the Russian side in recent months, according to the Twitter account of the Presidency.

The Caribbean nation's head of state also ratified the excellent moment that bilateral relations are going through, while the Russian parliamentarian thanked for the welcome given to his arrival.

Volodin, who arrived in Havana at noon on Saturday, conveyed to the Cuban president the good wishes sent by Russian President Vladimir Putin and commented that his delegation will do everything possible to implement the decisions approved between the two countries.

The visitor will also be received today by the president of the National Assembly (parliament) of Cuba, Esteban Lazo.

Together with legislators from the island, the head of the Russian State Duma and the delegation accompanying him will hold the first meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Commission, the result of an agreement signed in Moscow last November 30, which should be an instrument to further strengthen ties between the two nations.

The Russian delegation is made up of directors of the State Duma and of the different committees of that body, as well as of the Federation Council; in addition to authorities of several ministries and representatives of other bodies of the executive power. (Source: Prensa Latina)
