Cuban Singer/Song Writer Silvio Rodriguez

Madrid, Apr 15 (RHC) Cuban singer/song-writer Silvio Rodríguez is delighting his Spanish audiences with his latest album called 'Amoríos' or (Love Affairs).

Silvio, the indisputable leader of Cuba's Nueva Trova Movement, is currently on a tour of several Spanish cities. He offered his first two-hour long concert at the Anoeta velódromo (or velodrome in English), with capacity for 5 5000 people, who sang along some of Silvio's best-known songs, among them “El Necio” and “La Maza.”

Silvio Rodríguez is considered Cuba's best folk singer and known for his highly eloquent and symbolic lyrics. Many of his songs have become classics in Latin American music, such as "Ojalá", "Playa Girón", "Unicornio" and "La maza". Among his other well-known songs are "Fusil contra fusil" and "Canción del Elegido".

With nearly 20 albums to his credit, Silvio is also considered a symbol of the Latin American Left both, musically and politically. His songs combine romanticism, eroticism, revolutionary politics and idealism.

Having extensively toured the world, Silvio Rodríguez has been denied a U.S. visa several times. This was particularly controversial in 2009 when he was invited to celebrate the 90th birthday of Pete Seeger.

Later, in 2010, he obtained a U.S. visa and performed at venues in Puerto Rico, New York, Oakland, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and Orlando -- his first appearances in the U.S. in 30 years.

As part of his current Spanish tour, Silvio will give 10 concerts, delighting his audiences in such cities as Gijón, Zaragoza, Barcelona, Gran Canaria, Córdoba, Madrid, Murcia and Valencia.
