Cuba's First Vice President Visits Historic Radio Station

Havana, December 28 (RHC) On Friday Dec 27th, Cuba's First Vice President Miguel Diaz Canel, visited the current headquarters of Radio Rebelde, the historic radio station that broadcast from the eastern Sierra Maestra mountains the events of the liberation war led by Fidel Castro and the rebel army in the late 1950's.

In a meeting with workers of the station, Diaz-Canel described the the center as an institution with self image and solid journalism.

The top Cuban government official address issues relevant to the informative work that Radio Rebelde carries out, as well as the attention to recently graduated journalists, the treatment to be given to some stories that are not present in the Cuban press today, as well as the relationship between journalists and their sources of information.

Diaz Canel encouraged workers of the institution to take courses for master and doctor's degrees, as a guarantee for staff knowledge, which will consequently improve the work's quality.

In his dialogue with journalists, members of the board of directors and producers of Radio Rebelde, the First Vice President highlighted the quality sports features and congratulated workers for the results obtained this year and for upcoming 55 anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution.

The radio station was founded by guerrilla fighter Ernesto Che Guevara on February 24th, 1958. Since then, it has been at the center of preference of the Cuban people.
