Havana, Jun 1 (RHC) - Cuba secured its place in both rhythmic gymnastics events at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo, as well as an individual spot at the upcoming world championships in Brazil in August.
The rankings were finalized after the conclusion of the individual and team all-around events at the Pan American Championships, which are being held in Asuncion and feature the continent's top athletes.
In the individual competition, two spots were secured for next year's Central American and Caribbean Games, as well as a place for the aforementioned World Championships, which an American nation will host for the second time in history. The first time was back in 1971, when Cuba was the host nation.
Isabella Rojas, the most experienced member of the group, competed in all four events and scored 85.950 points, placing her in a respectable 14th place in the overall standings.
Her best results came in the ribbon event, where she scored 21.550 points to finish ninth and is the first alternate in case of any withdrawals among the eight finalists. In the hoop event, she scored 22.550 points and finished 10th, making her the second alternate for the medal round.
Taking into account only the Central Caribbean region, the Cuban team managed to place sixth and therefore earned the right to participate in Santo Domingo 2026 with two individual gymnasts.
In the case of the team, they also secured one of the tickets for the region, despite showing some weaknesses in the five-ribbon program. They barely scored 10.650 points, but they performed better in the three-ball with two hoops program, scoring 12.850 points.
