USA, Jun 18 (PL) Midfielder Phil Foden led England's Manchester City to its first victory in the Club World Cup today, after beating Morocco's Wydad 2-0 in Group G.

Foden scored after two minutes of play and then set up Belgium's Jérémy Doku (42nd minute) for the winners' second goal at Lincoln Financial Field.

City broke the Africans' five-man defensive line early on when Foden scored from a cross deflected in by goalkeeper El Mehdi Benabid.

Before visiting the locker room, Doku extended City's lead after Foden's corner kick.

Shortly after, an animal rights activist jumped onto the pitch to protest Morocco's treatment of stray dogs and cats.

There was another brief stoppage in the second half after a Wydad fan threw a flare behind the City goal.

Defender Rico Lewis was shown a red card after 88 minutes after a harsh foul on Ghana striker Samuel Obeng to leave City with 10 men.

With that result, Manchester City leads the G-section before facing UAE's Al-Ain on Sunday at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Wydad will stay in Philadelphia, where it will face another strong opponent, Italy's Juventus.
