Havana, Jul 2 (RHC) - The representatives of the capital won the gold medal in the basketball competition of the National Youth Games 2025, which was held in the city of Camagüey.

On Wednesday, they won 77 points to 69 against the hosts, as a culmination of a day in which the representation of Santiago de Cuba defeated with disproportionate 76-39 to Villa Clara in the dispute for the bronze medal.

The final phase of the competition had a round-robin format and semifinal play-offs between the four best teams. Las Tunas and Mayabeque were placed fifth and sixth, in that order.

Despite the fact that the team of Camagüey went through the qualifying phase undefeated, and led the group with a close 74-71 victory over the capital's women, the latter took revenge in the final to win the crown.

Havana's Milaysi Duany Céspedes was the most outstanding among the coaches and Alexey López Delgado was awarded as the best referee.

The ideal team was made up of champions María Fernanda Magdan and Gabriela Caballero Sáinz, Santiago's Brenda Alfonso and Camagüey's Lismary Sánchez and Leidys Batista, the latter being the leading scorer of the tournament.
