Havana, Jul 7 (RHC) - The Cuban national team debuts today against Pariba in the beginning of the Caribbean Little League baseball qualifying tournament, which will grant a berth for the World Series in Pennsylvania.
Eight teams made up of children under 12 years of age are seeking to become the regional champions of the Caribbean and obtain the only ticket available for the prestigious competition in Williamsport, United States, scheduled for next August, starting this Monday and ending on July 12 in Willemstad, Curaçao.
The competition is divided into two groups. Each group will play a round-robin phase; the two best teams in each zone will advance to the semifinals and the winners will compete for the Caribbean title, valid to represent the region in the so-called World Series.
The Cuban representation led by Yoel Flores, carries the banner of the Havana municipality of La Lisa, current national champion. The coach has highlighted the talent and preparation of his pupils to face a demanding and high competitive level.
The first obstacle will be Pariba, one of the host teams, which has historically been a tough contender and has the support of its local fans. They will then face Aruba Center (Aruba) and Bravos de Pontezuela (Dominican Republic), in that order.
In the other group will compete Pabou (the other local team), St. Maarten, Bonaire, and Elrod Hendricks West (US Virgin Islands).
This type of tournament is not only a competitive opportunity, but also a key platform for the integral development of baseball at an early age. It forges talents, strengthens values, and projects dreams.
Cuba has made significant progress since its incorporation into the Little League system, and each international participation reinforces the purpose of building a solid foundation for the future of the national sport.
