UNESCO's Deputy Director confirms projects in Cuba

Havana, Jan 24 (RHC) Gabriela Ramos, deputy director general for the Social and Human Sciences sector of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), verified some of the projects being carried out in Cuba in compliance with the mandates of this specialized United Nations agency.

 

As reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on its official website, the official began her visit on Monday with a tour of the historic center of Old Havana, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1982.

 

Ramos visited the Casa de África Museum, which belongs to the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana (OHCH), where she was received by its director, Alberto Granado Duque.

 

After a tour of the halls and a presentation of the projects linked to the institution's sociocultural space, she exchanged with the children of the Museum Classroom and their teacher Julia Perez, representatives of a project devised by the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana since 1994.

 

Representing the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana were Gladys Collazo, director of Heritage, and Perla Rosales, deputy director, as well as members of their work team.

 

Also accompanying the visitor were Miguel Barnet, president of the Fernando Ortiz Foundation; Dulce Maria Buergos, president of the Cuban National Commission for UNESCO; and Isabel Hernández Campos, director of the San Severino Castle Museum in Matanzas, headquarters of the Slavery Route Project.

 

Conceived at the initiative of Eusebio Leal, former Historian of the City of Havana, the museum classrooms aim to promote the study of History and Museology among elementary school students. (Source: ACN)
