Daynelis Vázquez, in the 41-kilogram division, improved her personal best three times, lifting 73, 75, and 77 kilos, in that order, for a total of 225 kg.
Her performance was enough to earn her the title in the event, followed by Ecuadorian Kerly Lezcano (200 kg). The bronze medal went to local Samir Hassan (173 kg).
The Cuban also earned a silver medal among the best lifts in the all-around.
In this category, the Ecuadorian representative took the top spot, lifting 102 kg on her second attempt. Third place went to Kazakhstan’s Snezhanna Boiko (74 kg).
Amalia Jiménez fared much better in the 45 kg division. The 17-year-old West Indian paralifter set a world record and another for the Americas, which was enough to crown her the overall winner of the event in the overall standings and best lift.

Anyuta Petrosyan of Armenia (95 kg) and Uzbekistan’s Gulsanam Sobirova (35 kg) completed the podium in both categories.
