Havana, October 15 (RHC) – Lisrialis González (78 kg) finished fifth in the 2025 Lima Pan American Judo Open, the highest finish of the four Cubans competing.
González defeated Peruvian Camila Figueroa in her first outing, giving her no liberties and dispatching her by ippon in just over a minute of the bout.
In the semifinals, she faced Dominican Brenda Olaya, ranked fifteenth in the world, who ultimately won by shidos.
She had to settle for one of the bronze medals, which she lost to Canadian Coralie Godbout.
Jon Kuan Fleitas (73 kg) lost his first bout by hansoku-make to Argentine Iván Gómez.
Alejandro César (81 kg) suffered the same fate against fellow Argentine representative Iván Ferreyra, the latter defeating him by yuko in the Golden Rule after just over five minutes of combat.
Glenda Masó (70 kg) also bowed out in her first match, losing by ippon to Dominican Esmeralda Damiano.
With a reduced team, Cuba finished 25th out of 28 participating nations, with only four failing to win medals.
The United States dominated the country rankings by winning four crowns, two runner-up titles, and a bronze medal. They were followed on the podium by Brazil (3-3-4) and Ecuador (3-2-2).
