ALBA-TCP revokes Bolivia’s membership due to colonialist conduct of incoming government

by Ed Newman

The states of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP) have decided to suspend the far-right government that will be installed in Bolivia, because its anti-Bolivarian, anti-Latin American, pro-imperialist, and colonialist conduct is not in line with the principles of the integration bloc.

ALBA-TCP declared that this suspension “does not affect the permanent, affectionate, and supportive ties we maintain with the Bolivian people, with whom we will continue working and supporting their development and well-being.”

The text stated that the public statements issued against Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua by the far-right government “are totally unacceptable,” as they disregard the principles of respect, sovereignty, and cooperation that underpin the integration of the peoples of Our America and the founding values of the Alliance.

The ALBA-TCP countries expressed that they have supported the Bolivian people since their integration, contributing to historic achievements in education, health, and economic development.

In this regard, they highlighted the achievement of more than one million people becoming literate through popular education programs; more than three million Bolivians served through the Miracle Mission and other health programs; and significant investments in various sectors of the economy.

Furthermore, they noted “a prominent international presence” in defense of Bolivarian principles and Latin American unity.

They emphasized that, thanks to this Alliance, “the voice of the Bolivian people has resonated strongly in Our America and around the world.”

The integration bloc reaffirmed its commitment to continue working alongside the Bolivian people, defending their rights, their social and economic development, and ensuring that the Alliance remains a space for solidarity, cooperation, and justice.

The suspension measure will remain in place while political conditions in Bolivia are evaluated, “with the aim of protecting the founding principles of ALBA-TCP and ensuring that the organization continues to be an instrument of unity, sovereignty, and social justice for all the peoples of Our America.” (Source: Prensa Latina)
