Cuba with Six Medals and a World Record in Paraweights

by Javier Perez Jimenez

Havana, November 7 (RHC) – Amalia González, Daynelis Vázquez and Daniuvis Díaz brought two gold, three silver and one bronze medals to Cuba in powerlifting (paraweights) at the VI Parapan American Youth Games in Chile 2025.

González, in the 45-kilogram (kg) category, led the brilliant performance by winning both titles and, in an additional attempt, breaking her own world record in the rookie category with 91 kg, one more than she achieved in October at the world championships in Cairo, Egypt.

The idol from the municipality of Yara, in the eastern province of Granma, had previously secured the gold medals with a total of 263 kg in three attempts (85-88-90), as well as achieving the best power lift of 90 kg among seven competitors from six countries.
