Havana, November 8 (RHC) – The Copa América de Béisbol, scheduled to take place in Panama between November 13 and 22, has been cancelled by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), it was revealed today.
According to an official statement from the WSBC, cited by the newspaper Panamá América, the decision stems from “operational and logistical difficulties on the part of the organization.”
It was learned that the host country was experiencing difficulties securing funding for hotel accommodations, logistics, and basic infrastructure.
The report adds that the organizers attempted to reschedule the event, but this proved too late, as the 2026 schedule is already full and there are no available dates.
The newspaper’s publication mentions the Colombian Baseball Federation (FCB), which expressed its regret over the tournament’s cancellation, while the host organization had not yet issued an official statement.
Cuba was in qualifying group A, along with Nicaragua, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Curaçao; while group B consisted of Panama, Canada, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Brazil, and Argentina.
According to the WBSC, the suspended competition would have awarded four berths to the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo and five to the 2027 Pan American Games in Lima.
