Cuban Vice President Salvador Valdés Mesa denounced today the warmongering led by the United States in the Caribbean and asserted that the region must be preserved as a Zone of Peace, as proclaimed in 2014.
The vice president, who is participating in the IV Summit of Heads of State and Government between the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the European Union (EU), which is taking place from today until tomorrow at the Santamar Convention Center, advocated for respectful dialogue between equals.
“We cannot ignore at this meeting the irrational onslaught of the United States government against Venezuela, and the ongoing deployment of an offensive US military operation in the Caribbean, under the false pretext of fighting drug trafficking,” he stated.
“It is an unacceptable threat of aggression, a violation of sovereignty, that undermines the peace and cooperation that Latin American and Caribbean countries want and must preserve,” he added.
He further stated that in the face of what he described as an imperialist hegemonic offensive and the effort to revive the Monroe Doctrine, Cuba reaffirms its unwavering support for the Venezuelan government, its president, and the Bolivarian people.
“The international community must mobilize to stop this direct aggression and military actions in the Caribbean, which endanger regional peace, stability, and security.
Furthermore, he deemed the progress achieved in the bi-regional partnership since the last Brussels Summit insufficient, and called for deepening ties based on trust and respect for sovereign equality, non-interference in the internal affairs of states, and the right of each country to decide its own political and socioeconomic system.
“A more supportive and collaborative approach between European Union and CELAC countries will allow political will to be translated into tangible commitments and better address the challenges.
Priority areas include combating climate change; food security; development financing; technology transfer; renewable energy; digital transformation; scientific research and innovation; “Trade and investment require more cooperation,” he stated.
The Cuban vice president emphasized that Cuba opposes any form of external imposition that seeks to subjugate any of its member states or threatens their sovereignty.
“In that sense, we reject the exclusion of three countries from our region from the so-called Summit of the Americas, now postponed,” he declared.
He also highlighted the attitude of the majority of the countries present at the meeting, who, despite the enormous pressure they were subjected to, forcefully demanded at the United Nations an end to the blockade imposed by the United States against the Caribbean nation for more than 60 years and rejected its extraterritorial impact.
“We appreciate the condemnation of the arbitrary decision to include us again on the fraudulent and unilateral list of supposed state sponsors of terrorism,” he exclaimed.
He asserted that the strategies of economic strangulation, blackmail, and media manipulation employed by the United States government against the island were exposed, including the slanderous claims intended to undermine its work. altruistic medical collaboration.
“We hope that this bi-regional Summit will contribute to strengthening a more robust CELAC-European Union relationship, geared towards inclusive development and cooperation, with greater commitment and capacity for dialogue, based on reciprocity and without interference, allowing us to achieve objectives and build spaces for mutual benefit.”
