Solidarity with Cuba is alive and well in southern Chile, thanks to the José Martí Cultural Association, based in the city of Concepción, capital of the Biobío Region.
Better known as La Martí, the organization celebrated its 35th anniversary in July of this year, which is just over half the time since the Cuban Revolution began.
Its work encompasses various areas, it said, always focused on supporting the Cuban people and promoting their values and scientific, cultural, sporting, and social contributions, despite suffering a severe blockade imposed by the United States for more than six decades.
An important tool in their work is the Nuestra América bookstore, where one can find texts on Latin American history and thought and, of course, copies of the extensive works of the Cuban National Hero, José Martí.
Considered the largest small bookstore in Concepción, it sponsored the presentation of the books *Fidel Castro, Guerrilla of Time* and *All the Time of the Cedars*, by their author, Katiuska Blanco, biographer of the leader of the Revolution.
In its most recent initiative, La Martí organized a solidarity event with the primary goal of contributing to the purchase of medical equipment for the Miguel Enríquez Clinical Teaching Hospital in Havana.
However, following news of the damage caused by Hurricane Melissa in eastern Cuba, the association also extended its support to the Chilean Solidarity Movement to help repair the destruction caused by the storm.
The José Martí Cultural Association actively participated in the 9th Continental Meeting of Solidarity, held in Mexico with the participation of hundreds of delegates from Latin America, the Caribbean, and other parts of the world.
