Havana, November 23 (RHC) – The Cuban Under-17 men’s team will compete today for the gold medal against Puerto Rico in the final of the II Continental Volleyball Championship of North America, Central America and the Caribbean (Norceca), which is being held in Nicaragua.

The decisive match is scheduled at the Alexis Argüello Sports Center in this capital for 4:00 p.m. local time, after the Cuban team beat the United States 3-1 the day before in an electrifying duel that concluded with scores of 25-22, 27-25, 12-25 and 25-20.

“It was a hard-fought victory, but we got it. We’re happy with this win. A few things happened during the game, but I think the lads were psychologically prepared for this match.”

Lian Sem Estrada, coach.

At the same sports facility, Puerto Rico advanced to the final after defeating Mexico 3-2 in a close match with set scores of 16-25, 25-23, 25-21, 17-25, and 15-12.

As part of the competition, the United States and Mexico will also face off this Sunday for the bronze medal in the tournament, which awards berths to the 2026 U17 World Championship, to be held in Qatar.

The tournament is organized by the NORCECA Confederation, the Nicaraguan Volleyball Federation, and the Nicaraguan Institute of Sports.
