by Javier Perez Jimenez

Havana, November 27 (RHC) – Cuba lost 20-41 to Brazil today in their debut in Group G of the XXVII Women’s World Handball Championship, in a match played at the Porsche Arena in this city.

With order, speed, and accuracy as their weapons, the South Americans dominated from start to finish in a match that highlighted the gap between the two squads in this opening game of the Germany-Netherlands 2025 tournament.

Brazil displayed an almost flawless offensive machine, with a 63 percent shooting accuracy and 100 percent from the seven-meter line, figures that sealed their dominance on the German court.

Alexandra Do Nascimento led the Brazilian scoring spree with seven goals, followed by Jamily Do Nascimento (6), Jessica Quintino (5), Bruna de Paula (5), and Larissa Fais Munhoz (5).

For the Cuban side, Jennifer Amanda’s fighting spirit emerged, scoring eight goals, supported by Dianny González (3).

The World Cup brings together 32 teams from around the globe in pursuit of the title currently held by France, the 2023 champion. In this preliminary round, three of the four teams advance to the main draw, while the remaining team competes for positions 25 through 32.

Cuba, participating for the fifth time —following appearances in 1999, 2011, 2015, and 2019—has never managed to place among the top 20, with its best results being 21st place in 1999 and 2019.

The Caribbean team’s journey continues on Saturday against Sweden. It concludes on Monday against the Czech Republic, in a group dominated by Brazil, ninth place in the previous edition, and the world champion in Serbia in 2013.
